Introduction
The groups talked about wanting to celebrate the Millenium
Some
members of the East Ham and Manor Park Group came up with the idea of a
party with a space-age theme
We
got £210 from Newham, Council Grants for Local Millenium Celebrations towards
the big party.
The
Leisure and Advocacy Project, which runs the Evening Leisure Groups, will
have been running for a year on April 1st 2000.
People
in the groups thought this was worth celebrating too.
We
had one big party on 24th March to celebrate the year 2000 and the work
that Powerhouse and Leisure Link had done.

year of the leisure and advocacy project by Pam Barette
The Women Talking Group had an idea about going out in the
evenings.
It was boring just sitting in and watching T.V. every night.
The Women Talking Group used to just see each other on
a Wednesday afternoon, now we see each other in the evenings and at weekends.
I see more of my friends now.
Some people didn’t go out at all before because they
need help.
It feels safe going out in a group.
We go for meals, bowling a disco night in Deptford.
I had a video party at my house and we are going to
have one at someone else’s house.

The group has ideas, then I choose which ones I want to do from the Diary.I
want to do more with the group
I’d
like to go on holiday with the group.
I would like to stay overnight in a guesthouse with the group.

Funding
successes
Newham
Leisure Link and Power House would like to thank Newham Social Services
for funding the Leisure and Advocacy project in its pilot year.
Due
to the success of the project, funding has been extended for another 2 years,
so there will be many more nights of partying for the Evening Leisure Groups!
Well done everyone!
